It was a very emotional moment for all of us when Butler Did It carried Debby Brown (Christa's mom) to the Senior 1st Division Championship of the NBHA (National Barrel Horse Association) Indiana State Show held in July at Edinburgh, Indiana's Hoosier Horse Park.
Christa had wanted Butler to earn a title at the Indiana State Show for several years, but it was always out of their reach.
"It was even better that he earned it with mom." It wasn't about me, it was about him. He deserves it and so does mom. She is a super jockey and proved it by jumping on a horse she had only ridden twice before to win a state title."
VC Ranch & Performance Horses is located in a great area between Muncie and New Castle, Indiana. Close to several of the horse venues in the area, including Hoosier Park (only minutes away in Anderson), Hoosier Downs (within an hours drive in Shelbyville.) Circle G Arena, C Bar C Arena and many many more are within an hour or two of us.
VC Ranch offers full care board (which includes all feed and bedding) and specializes in training and lessons geared towards barrel racers and pole benders.
All horses at VC Ranch are turned out as weather permits. We offer a 50' x 100' indoor arena and a 100' x 200' outdoor riding arena.
Our training program is geared towards creating sound minded horses that will be competing for years to come. We place a lot of focus on teaching the basics before horses are "started" on barrels. Our main goal is to have a happy horse that likes it's job and will walk flat footed into the arena and out.

Christa & Butler Did It
It finally happened! The Indiana NBHA State Championship title that had evaded the team of Christa and Butler Did It for so many years was at last theirs to enjoy. Christa and Butler qualified to the finals clocking the 13th fastest time of the first go and winning the 2D 1st place money. The pair came back and had an exciting run that included Christa setting up a third barrel and turning loose of her reins for a moment in the finals! It ended up working out to their benefit, because when the results were called out, the run put the pair winning the 2D championship and trophy saddle for 2011!
Christa had almost given up hope when in 2010 Butler carried Debby Brown (Christa's mom) to the Senior 1st Division Championship of the NBHA (National Barrel Horse Association) Indiana State Show (held in July at Edinburgh, Indiana's Hoosier Horse Park.) Butler was 19 in 2010 and Christa's son Garrett was going to take him over at any point. Butler had other plans. He wasn't slowing down and Garrett wasn't quite ready to go that fast yet. So, Christa got one more year to give it a shot.
"I couldn't have written the story better if I had written it myself," said Christa. "God has a way of blessing us when we least expect it and this was an awesome blessing. All of the years (12 to be exact) that I have ridden Butler and all of the winning we have done was while he belonged to Vick and me along with my in-laws. This past Christmas, they all made it "official and gave him to me. It was a very sentimental gift and I think that makes this win that much more of a blessing. Only God could have known that would happen and all in the same year that I would hand him over to my son."
Christa and Vick's kids are now riding the two horses Christa competed on when she qualified for the International Finals Rodeo in 2002. Their daughter, Gracie, is riding "Lucks Bold Story" aka Lucky and doing very well. The pair qualified for the NBHA Youth World as well as the NBHA Open World. Gracie makes the fourth generation to compete on Lucky while Garrett has since taken over the reins of Butler. We'll see if the Conway kids can claim a championship of their own in the near future. Who knows, maybe Butler can Do it yet again!
